I created this display type as a class project at Central Washington University. The project was to develop a display font and then use it in another design project.
I really love illustration so I decided to make little images out of each letter. I originally called the font “Love the Mountains” but once I got halfway through the alphabet, I was feeling pretty limited, so I decided to go with the broader “Love the Wilderness” instead. Each letter is made of something you would find in the wilderness–animals, canoes, mountains, trees, camping materials, etc.
After creating the font I thought it would be perfect for a summer camp. I created a bag and brochure that all the campers would receive after registering. The brochure has information on what to pack, camp rules, and a list of activities they’ll do at camp. Along the bottom of the bag and brochure, I made some wilderness illustrations and included the letters from the font along with a few new tree illustrations. To make the brochure even more fun for the campers, I folded it in a way that looks like a tent when it’s closed, and it opens up into a circle.
